Exodus 3:13-15 KJV
And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
God describes Himself by many different names in the Bible. Each of which reveals a specific aspect of His nature and character. Whatever He introduces Himself as, this is who He is, for you, forever.
So who are you ’I AM’? What do you do?
I AM all this, and more, for YOU, today and forever.
Jesus is everything that God Almighty declared Himself to be at the burning bush.
Theologians like to put God in a box. They have found some places in the Gospel of John where Jesus says "I am". They count seven of them. Seven is a beautiful divine number, so they refuse to find or include more than 7. They call them "THE seven I ams of Jesus", like it's impossible for anyone to find more than they've found.
Here are 'The Seven I ams’ in John’s Gospel: there are nine of them, five of which occur more than once, but theologians count John 14:6 as one, thus restricting the total to the theologically comfortable number of seven.
Over and above these are five even greater, more important, more powerful and more consequential than the nine.
Jesus presents himself with the same eternal name as The Father did at the burning bush. He identifies as the great I AM:
Before Abraham was, I AM (John 8:58)
If you do not believe that I AM you will die in your sins (John 8:24)
I AM the Son of God (John 10:36)
I AM [He] (John 18:6,8)
I AM (Mark 14:62 - to the high priest and Sanhedrin)
Plus two more that are implied
It is me (John 4:26)
it is He who is talking with you (John 9:37)
